Abstract

1,204,061. Electro-photographic apparatus. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP. Feb.14, 1968 [Feb.20, 1967], No.7319/68. Heading G2H. An electro-photographic apparatus receives signals from a data signal source 12 to produce images at an exposure station on light sensitive copy sheets 14, fed in accordance with a predetermined programme along a path through the station, and means are provided for detecting failure of the sheet to move in accordance with the programme and to provide a signal indicating that the apparatus is not in a condition to process a copy sheet. The signal source 12 supplies signals to a cathode ray tube 16 to produce images on the sheets 14 fed from a stack or cut from a web. A clutch 18 between a drive motor 20 and rollers 22 controls the feed of the sheets to a corona charging station 24. Drive rollers 30, 32, 34 are driven intermittently by a motor 26 from a power supply 28 controlled by the signal source 12 in synchronism with image producing signals fed to the cathode ray tube 14. A detecting station 38 having photo-cells 156 and 158 arranged in a line transverse to the path of sheet movement detect skewing of the sheets such skewing being indicated by illumination of a lamp 188. A jam detecting circuit 42 has a photo-cell 52 illuminated twice for each rotation of a gear 46 by a lamp 50, thus providing pulses counted by a circuit 42. A lamp 244 is illuminated if the sheet does not reach a detecting station 60 at the proper time while a gate 144 inhibits a gate 146 to prevent transfer of control to data source 12 and prevent additional copies being fed from the supply. Rollers 54, 56 are continuously driven by a drive motor 58 assuming no jam occurs to feed the sheet 14 carrying a latent electrostatic image to the station 60 and developer station 70. A photocell 212 detects the arrival of a sheet at the station 60. A photo-cell 250 detects the arrival of sheet at a station 74. Failure of a sheet to arrive at station is indicated after an appropriate time delay by illumination of a lamp 272. As the copy sheet leaves a fusing station 76 it intercepts a beam of light to a photo-cell 274 at detecting station 88. If the sheet does not intercept the beam by the time a circuit 280 times out, a lamp 300 provides a visible indication and through gates 124, 144 prevents further signals being fed to cathode ray tube 16.
