Abstract

1407148 Electro-photography SPERRY RAND CORP 29 Aug 1973 [29 Jan 1973] 40725/73 Heading G2H In a copier of the kind wherein a document is scanned to lay down an electrostatic image of the document on the surface of a rotating xerographic drum, the electrostatic image is developed to produce a visible image, and said drum surface is transferred to a copy sheet; the copier includes power drive means for continuously rotating the xerographic drum at a predetermined speed, and means responsive to the sensing of a document in the scanning station to energize, after a suitable delay, a clutch that engages said power drive means with transport means for transporting a copy sheet past said transfer station. The clutch energization is effected via a timing cam and switch. The scanning station has continuously operative reversible document feed means which, in conjunction with a manually adjustable control for setting two home-indexed cams to the number of copies required, permits the production of multiple copies of a single document. The moving document is scanned to provide line by line exposure of the pre-charged xerographic drum and the development of the latent image is effected by a cascade development system with metered toner replenishment. Cleaning of the drum, after transfer of the developed image, is effected by exposure to light, to a charge of opposite sign to the initial charge, and then to a moving cleaning web. The Specification includes circuits for the control of the copier.
