Abstract

1,204,153. Electro-chemical machining electrode. SIEMENS A.G. Sept.27, 1967, No.44064/67. Heading C7B. An electro-chemical machining electrode has face (which in use is opposed to the workpiece) bounded by a periphery, that defines a corner. At the periphery, the electrode has strip-form edge regions, e.g. 24 in Fig. 2a, substantially perpendicular to the said face and narrowed towards the corner so that, when the electrode is in use, substantially the same anode current density can be obtained adjacent to the corner as at the remainder of the periphery. As shown, the narrowing of the strip-form edge regions is achieved by tapering the foot of an electrode assembly. Alternatively, the narrowing could be achieved if the foot were suitably coated at its edge regions with insulating lacquer, e.g. epoxy resin, or with material which is more highly cathodically polarizable than the remainder of the foot, e.g. lead applied by electro-deposition. In use, the electrolyte may be supplied through a hollow support stem and the foot. As shown, the stem and top of the foot have a coating of insulating material. Whereas Fig. 2a shows a tool for producing cavities, Figs 4a-c (not shown) illustrates a tool electrode for producing projections of triangular cross-section.
