1,202,945. Unsaturated polyester compositions. MERCK & CO. Inc. 30 April, 1968 [2 May, 1967], No. 20388/68. Heading C3P. A polymerizable resin composition stabilized against degradation during storage comprises (A) an unsaturated polyester of (1) an alcohol having two or more hydroxy groups and (2) an α,#-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having two or more carboxy groups, or an anhydride thereof, and a polymerizable monomer containing terminal ethylenic unsaturation, and (B) from 0À1 to 1% by weight, based on the weight of the resin composition, of magnesium oxide as sole stabilizer, the composition comprising no catalyst and no monocarboxylic acid. In the examples the polyesters are prepared from phthalic anhydride, maleic anhydride, propylene glycol, glycol and maleic or fumaric acid and the monomer is styrene.
