Abstract

1,202,668. Cutting device. HEBERLEIN & CO. A.G. 14 April, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 19044/69. Heading B4B. [Also in Division B3] A cutting device for filaments &c. comprises a cutter 9 operable by an electromagnet armature 4, one end of the cutter 9 being pivotably seated in a recess 8 of a coupling member 6, whilst the cutting end is slidable over a fixed knife 14, spring means 11 connected between the cutter 9 and a fixed point 12 urging the cutter 9 into contact with the knife 14 and exerting a return force on the cutter 9 and armature 4 after each cutting movement. The knife edge is formed as a circular hole 14a in a plate 14, a slot (15), Fig. 2 (not shown), allowing insertion of the material 16 to be cut, and a catcher 10 rigid with the cutter 9 engages a fixed resilient pad 17 to trap the cut-off piece. Operation.-A metal ring 26 and insulating ring 27 are mounted on the end of the armature 4, and at the start of a cutting cycle, a switch member 25 contacts the metal ring 26 such that a resistance 24 is bridged. On actuating the circuit, Fig. 5 (not shown), a current flows in a magnet coil 3 to actuate the cutter 9. The bridging is broken when the member 25 contacts the insulating ring 27 and the stroke is then completed under a greatly reduced current through the resistance 24 until a conical magnetic surface 5 of the armature 4 strikes a core 20, a switch (28) in a sensor finally breaking the circuit. However, if the material 16 has not been fully severed, the members 5, 20 remain separated by an air gap, the cutter 9 being withdrawn by the spring 11 so that the stroke is repeated automatically.
