Abstract
1,202,582. Polyethoxylated alkyl phenol compositions. ELECTROFLOR Inc. 11 Sept., 1967, No. 41358/67. Heading C3R. [Also in Division C4] A coloured gel-forming, water-washable, normally liquid composition for detecting surface discontinuities in test bodies comprises 55-85% by weight of a liquid water-soluble ethoxylated alkylphenol and 10-45% of a liquid water-insoluble alkylphenol or ethoxylated alkylphenol, together with an indicator dye; the water-soluble component having 7 to 15 mols. of ethylene oxide per mol. of alkyl phenol and the water-insoluble ethoxylated alkyl phenol having 1 to 5 moles of ethylene oxide. The alkyl substituents preferably have 5 to 18 carbon atoms. The dye may be a visible dye or a fluorescent sensitizer; in the latter case a colour-former dye may be used therewith. The composition may also contain a glycol, including polyglycol, or glycerine to adjust the viscosity, preferably in amounts of 20-45%. Other ingredients such as methylene chloride to lower the viscosity and subsequently evaporate off may also be used, as well as water, miners oils &c
