Abstract

1420757 Hydraulic fluids UNION CARBIDE EUROPE SA 17 April 1973 [12 June 1972] 27421/72 Heading C5F A hydraulic fluid comprises (1) at least 50 wt. per cent of one or more monoalkyl glycol ethers, the molecules of which consist of a monoalkyletherified glycol chain of 3 ethoxy units and 1 propoxy unit in any order, the alkyl groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and (2) 1 to 4 wt. per cent of combined boric acid or equivalent weight of other borating agent, e.g. boric anhydride or a borate glycol ester, the composition being such that the hydraulic fluid has a dry equilibrium reflux b.pt. of at least 288‹ C., a wet equilibrium b.pt. of at least 155‹ C. and a viscosity at - 40‹ C. if not more than 1500 cs. The fluid may also contain other diluent glycol ethers, e.g. alkoxy tri- and/or tetra-alkylene glycols, and up to 6% of other glycols or glycol ethers. The fluids may be made by locating monoalkylglycol ethers.
