Abstract

120,199. Brummer, A. F. W. Oct. 20, 1917, [Convention date]. Retting.-Fibres are obtained from grass, reed, rushes, straw, stalk, bark, and like vegetable materials by boiling with an alkaline sulphide, such as sodium sulphide or an alkaline earth sulphide or a mixture of such sulphides, and subsequently treating with hot alum solution, or with a solution of sodium thiosulphate to which a little sulphuric acid has been added. The product is washed and dried.
