A wide-angle lens consisting of eight components and having a relative aperture of 1:5À6 and an angular field of at least 120 degrees wherein the object side and the image side of a convergent central part comprising two converging elements 5, 6 are each faced by the concave sides of three divergent menisci 1, 2, 3 and 4, 7 and 8 and 9, 10, 11 the less curved faces r9, r10 enclosing a diaphragm and the more strongly curved faces r8, r11 each being adjacent to a thick dispersive meniscus, each of these two menisci having at least one convergent convex face facing the diaphragm, and the air space 13, 15 in the form of a thin meniscus between the central part and the adjacent meniscus is in each case less than 0À015 times the entire focal length, the distance between the convex outer faces r8, r11 of the two convergent elements 5, 6 of the central part is less than 0À35 times the entire focal length. Optical data are provided for the example shown in which the thick merising on the image side has a further cemented face r14 and for another embodiment in which the thick memicus on the object side also has a further cemented face (r6<SP>1</SP>) Fig. 2 (not shown) which is concave towards the diaphragm.
