Abstract
945,652. Zoom lenses. P.ANGENIEUX. March 26, 1962 [March 31, 1961], No. 11421/62. Heading G2J. In a variable focal length or variable magnification lens system having a fixed front member and at least two movable members of which the one next to the front is divergent. The front member comprises at least three elements divided into two parts of which the front has a focal length more than 1.20 x that of the rear part and consists of a front divergent element with a concave rear surface and a rear biconvex element, the adjacent surfaces of these elements having a divergent effect, the ratio or the radius of the rear surface or the biconvex element to that of the front surface of the divergent element being less than 2, and the radius of said front surface being more than 2 Î the focal length of the front member, whereas the rear surface of the rear part is concave and has a radius greater than the focal length of the front member. In the objective shown, the rear part of the front member I is a simple convergent meniscus with radii R5, R6, the members II and III are respectively divergent and convergent and both are movable and the rear member IV is fixed and convergent. Optical data are given for this example and for another example which is an afocal system in which the rear member is convergent and movable and between the front and rear members there are two divergent members of which the front one is movable. Data are also given for other examples of the front member itself in which the divergent and biconvex elements are either in broken contact or cemented together.
