Abstract
1,201,518. Gas fuelled lighters. K. E. WIEDEN, [trading as KARL WIEDEN K.G.]. 20 June, 1968 [12 Aug., 19671, No. 29493/68. Heading F4F. To facilitate flint replacement in a gas fuelled lighter having a fuel reservoir 1 and a flint 12 biased against a striker wheel 14 by gas pressure, the striker wheel is mounted on a bearing member 22 which has cams 24 which co-operate with slots in an intermediate wall 4 between the reservoir 1 and wheel 14 to provide bayonet closure so that, when the cams are inserted into the slots and the member 22 rotated, the member 22 is secured removably to the intermediate wall which has recesses 26 in its inner surface to receive the cams 24. In the embodiment shown, to replace a flint a cap 10 is removed from the lighter and a plate 23 forming the bearing member 22 and having a cut-out 28 for the passage of a gas outlet 3 is rotated and the plate removed and a new flint inserted into the flint tube 11. The plate 23 is then replaced and rotated to be locked in position and the cap 10 replaced. To operate the lighter a key 34 is rotated to release a pawl 32 received in an aperture 31 in the cap 10. The pawl 31 is then rotated by a spring 33 about the striker wheel spindle 30 to rotate the wheel 14 to produce sparks and to lift a closing element 32<SP>1</SP> off the outlet 3. In a second embodiment, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the lighter has a hinged lid (38) and a wind-guard 37 rotatable about a striker wheel spindle (30) and acting as a handle for releasing the cams 24. On opening the lid a rocker lever 44 opens the gas outlet 3. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,045,181.
