Abstract

In a planar integrated circuit interconnecting layers deposited on an insulating coating on the semi-conductor body or bodies constituting the circuit are isolated from the bodies by one or more insulated ground planes extending over substantially the whole surface of the circuit. In the embodiment the circuit elements, formed by diffusion, are grouped into cells constituted by areas of a single wafer or by different wafers embedded in a glass substrate. Connections between elements within a cell are made conventionally by deposited metal layers on an insulating coating. A succession of insulating layers and metal ground planes, each apertured where connections are to extend through them are then deposited over the entire assembly and inter-cell connections deposited over the uppermost insulating layer. The ground planes are connected to the various voltage supplies needed to operate the circuit.
