Abstract

1,199,928. Barrel apparatus for treatment of workpieces. THOMAS GAMESON & SONS Ltd. Feb.7, 1968 [Nov. 12, 1966], No.50830/66. - Heading C7B. In a workpiece treatment machine comprising an apertured barrel 26 for containing the workpieces to be treated and mounted for rotation in a tank 10 for containing electrolyte or other treatment liquid, the barrel is mounted on a frame 11 for rotation relative thereto and the frame is mounted for tilting about a substantially horizontal axis relative to the tank, the frame carrying a motor 28 which is arranged to drive the barrel by means of a belt drive, the belt being entrained about the barrel. As shown the barrel is mounted on the frame 11 by means of a pivotal connection with the frame part 25 at the rear of the barrel and by means of guide rollers 27 at the forward end. The barrel is immersed in tank 10 by rotation about pivot 13 by means of a piston and cylinder device 14, 15; movement of the barrel being controlled by means of counter-weight 37. For electrolytic treatment of the workpieces, one electrode 29 lies along the axis of the barrel, and the counter-electrodes are suspended adjacent the tank walls from bars 32. The inner surface of the barrel with one or more baffles 34. For use in zinc plating with cyanide solution the frame may be of mild steel and the barrel of synthetic plastics material; or the steel frame may be coated with plastics material or parts thereof may be of titanium.
