Abstract

1,199,469. Control of A.C. motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 21 Nov., 1967 [24 Nov., 1966], No. 53019/67. Heading H2J. '[Also in Division G3] An induction motor 10 for an automatic washing machine 10 has a squirrel cage rotor 11, and its stator is formed in parts 15, 16 which respectively carry high-pole winding 17 and a low-pole winding 18. A programme controller operates change-over switches 22, 30 so that, in the position shown, the winding 17 is effective for operation in a low-speed range, the speed being regulated to a value set on reference device 27. A closed loop control circuit comprises tachometer generator 14, the device 27, controller 24, and a switch 19 in series with the stator winding. The switch 19 and the controller 24 are of the electronic types comprising transistors. The frequency of the supply to the winding 17 is determined by the switch 19. When the programme controller operates the switches 22, 30 to their alternative positions, in which the winding 18 and reference device 28 are in circuit, the motor speed lies within a high-speed range.
