Abstract

1222893 Automatic speed control KENWOOD MFG (WOKING) Ltd 28 March 1969 [April 11, 1968] 17696/68 Index H1N 53X 635 636 703 and 770 [Also in Division H2] The contacts 15 of a centrifugal governor controlling the speed of a motor 1 carry only the gate current of a controlled semi-conductor 2, e.g. a triac, the main motor current being switched, at current zero, by the semi-conductor. The triac, which is connected between one field winding 3 and the armature of the motor, is shunted by a resistor R1 and capacitor C1 in series, the governor contacts 15 being connected between the gate of the triac and the junction of R1-C1 or alternatively Fig. 2 (not shown) the junction of R1 and the field coil 3. The set speed is adjustable by varying the contacts Fig. 3 (not shown). The arrangement is suitable for controlling the speed of food mixers, sewing machines or power tools.
