Abstract
1,199,446. Conveyers. HARRIS-INTERTYPE Ltd. 23 July, 1968 [27 July, 1967], No. 34514/67. Heading B8A. Apparatus for transversely aligning articles, e.g. bundles at a tying station, comprises driven conveyer rollers 7 of which one group 17 of three is provided with a beam 21 which may be lifted, by a cylinder device 25, so as to disengage temporarily a bundle supported on the rollers. A plate 47 is mounted for reciprocal movement in the longitudinal direction of the roller axes, such movement being derived from cylinder-operated rack and pinion means 37, 39 which drives a chain 45 linked to the plate 47. A bundle to be tied is fed in a direction A until its leading edge has engaged the group 17 of rollers whereupon drive to all the rollers is cut off. The bundle is then raised by the beam 21 and the plate 47 operates to push the bundle in the direction B, to a tying machine (not shown). On completion of the tying operation the plate 47 is returned to its original position and drive to the rollers is restored to remove the bundle from the tying station. The sequence of operations is automatic and is initiated by the bundle itself. In place of the rollers 7, conveyer belts or chains may be used, the beam being replaced by a slotted beam or a number of smaller beams. The apparatus is supported on castors 3 and is secured to a conventional tying machine by means of clamping jacks 5. Alternatively the apparatus may be built into a tying machine. The roller group 17 is removable to aid assembly of the apparatus within the tying machine.
