Abstract

1,220,713. Feed to ironing machine. P. BABOZ. 6 Sept., 1968 [8 Sept., 1967], No. 42621/ 68. Heading D1A. The leading edges of sheets, table-clothes &c are fed by an intermittently driven drive drum 11 and a rotatable pressure drum 12 to a clamping device 2, 4 on a carriage 5 movable on rails 6, when the latter is in its retracted position, and are then carried by the carriage, as it moves on rails 6, until they are deposited on a conveyer 1, the drive to drum 11 being discontinued when the leading edge is received by clamping device 2, 4, so that drums 11, 12 rotate freely during movement of the carriage. The clamping device comprises a metal angle member 2 and a resilient flat member 4 on carriage 5 which has rollers or guides engaging rails 6 Carriage 5 is reciprocated through links and levers 7, 8, 9, 28 by an hydraulic jack 27. Drum 11 is driven through a chain or belt by motor 24 and has an anti-slip surface of rubber or synthetic material having projections. Drum 12 is actuated through connected arms 13 and link 26 by an hydraulic jack 25. In operation, the leading edge of the sheet is placed in the clamping device 2, 4 and the trailing end passes between lateral stretching drums 15, 16, drum 15 having a helicoid formation on its surface, between photoelectric cell 24 and light 35 and between beaters 17. Contacts are closed by the operatives and, after a delay actuated by the cutting off of light to cell 24, the carriage 5 moves forward. Thus a second sheet can be placed in the machine before the first sheet has been fed completely to the conveyer and the second sheet will be delayed until the first sheet has cleared the photo-electric cell and it has been obscured by the second sheet.
