Abstract
1330739 Bag closing machines OPTIMA MASCHINENFABRIK DR BUHLER KG 28 July 1971 [29 July 1970] 35365/71 Heading B8C In a bag closing machine, the bag is advanced continuously, its neck is gathered, and a clip, comprising a metal band or a paper or plastics band with wire inserts is fed to a device for pre-bending into a U-shape and then closed about the gathered bag neck, the device being moved with the bag to be closed. Bag feeding.-A filled bag 8 is supported on conveyer 11 and has its neck 10 gripped between and advanced by conveyer belts 3, 4. A pair of sliding rails 12, 13 are situated on one side of the belts 3, 4 and are spring urged towards one another, whilst a pair of sliding webs 14, 15 are spaced from the other side of the belts 3, 4, the bag neck 10 passing between these rails and webs. Gathering the bag neck.-Pair of first gathering members 62 are pivoted to an endless chain 64 driven at a speed twice that of the belts 3, 4. Each first gathering member carries a cam follower 67 which engages a cam 68. A second gathering member 63 is pivoted on an angle lever 70 which carries a cam follower 73 urged against a rotatable cam 74 by a spring 76. In operation, a pair of first gathering members 62 catch up and gather the neck of a bag between the belts 3, 4, the gathered neck then moving against the second gathering member to complete the gathering. Clip feeding and applying.-A clip-band 39 is feed through a passage 38 by a drive roller 50 opposite a counter roller 46 carried by an angle lever 47, 48 pivoted by a solenoid 49. The end of the passage 38 forms a cutting edge 43 which co-operates with a cutting edge (44, Figs. 4 and 5), formed on one jaw 30 of a bending mouth 28, to sever a clip 16 from the band 39. The bending mouth 28 is suported on a plate 18 carried by two cranks 19, 20 rotated about shafts 21, 22. A bending ram 27 is reciprocated in the mouth 28 by a cam 33 and is urged upwardly by a spring 34. A pivotable pre-bending lever 53 has a bending nose 54 and carries a cam follower 59 urged against a cam 61 by a spring 60, the lever 53 being pivoted to a shaft 56 carried on a shaft 58 pivoted to a fixed support 1. In operation, as the bending mouth 28 moves downwardly it cuts off the clip from the band 39 so that continued descent causes the clip to be bent into a U-shape over the bending nose 54. The nose 54 is then pivoted away from the mouth 28 and the ram 27 descends to press the clip over the gathered neck and against a bending matrix (81, Fig. 6) carried by the second gathering member 63 for closure of the clip. The member 63 is then retracted and the bag discharged. Prior to applying the clip the bag may be evacuated by a nozzle 43.
