Abstract

1,199,272. Boots &c. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 11 Aug., 1967 [12 Aug., 1966; 22 June, 1967], Nos. 45247/69 and 45248/69. Divided out of 1,199,271. Heading A3B. A method of bonding an outsole to a shoe bottom comprises heating the surface of the outsole, applying a layer of finely divided adhesive across the width of the outsole while it is still hot, heating the finely divided composition to cause the particles to fuse to form a discontinuous film and pressing the outsole against the shoe bottom while the adhesive composition is still hot. The outsole may be cooled and stored and subsequently reheated. The shoe bottom may be pre-heated before application to the outsole. The adhesive composition may be a thermoplastic polyester such as a copolyester of terephthalic, isophthalic and azelaic acids with 1, 4-butane diol or a copolymer of ethylene and cinyl acetate. The adhesive composition may be applied by means of a vibrating hopper and may be supplied to the hopper by a fluidizing means.
