Abstract

1,199,236. Control systems for storage heating apparatus. HEATOVENT ELECTRIC Ltd. 31 March, 1969 [4 April, 1968], No. 16228/68. Heading H2H. [Also in Division F4] In an electric thermal storage heater having an element for heating the room directly as well as an element for heating the storage core, a switch is provided for connecting both elements to the off-peak supply or the direct heating element only to the normal supply. As shown, a 1400-watt element 10 heats the core while 800- and 200-watt elements 11, 12 heat the room directly. A live off-peak terminal 14, a live normal terminal 15 and a common neutral terminal 16 are provided and a switch 24 in one position connects terminal 14 to all of the heating elements and in its other position connects terminal 15 to elements 11 and 12. The connection between switch 24 and elements 11, 12 includes a room thermostat 27. Element 12 is connected directly to terminal 16 while elements 10 and 11 are connected to that terminal via a thermostat 19 which opens the circuit of element 10 and closes the circuit to element 11 when the temperature of the storage core exceeds 600‹ F. In a modification (Figs. 2 and 2A, not shown) the switch 24 is replaced by a relay whose energizing coil is connected to the off-peak supply so that switching is effected automatically according to whether off-peak power is available.
