Abstract

1,198,910. Liquid-metal cooled reactors. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY. 13 June, 1968 [16 June, 1967], No. 28169/68. Heading G6C. [Also in Division F4] Fuel elements 1 of a reactor are located in porous sintered steel tubes 2 and are cooled by the admission of a liquid metal to the tubes at such a pressure that the metal does not boil, the metal passing through the porous tube walls to a lower pressure region where it vaporizes and is then condensed by heat exchangers 9 for recirculation. A pump circulates the liquid metal from the heat exchangers 9 to a feed line 7 of a supply chamber 8, and a liquid metal reservoir 6 is located above and is in communication with the tubes 2.
