Abstract

1,197,987. Syringes. LOVENS KEMISKE FABRIK PRODUKTIONSAKTIESELSKAB. 3 Nov., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 50185/67. 'Heading A5R. [Also in Division F1] A syringe comprises a piston 8 which is axially displaceable in a barrel 1 having at one end an ejection nozzle 3, the piston being provided with a through bore 20, and the syringe having a locking member 12 which may be used to secure the piston against displacement inward from an outer withdrawn position. As shown, in a syringe suitable for injecting an ointment onto the body, the piston 8 is formed with a neck portion 9 and the locking member 12 comprises (see also Figure 2, not shown) a bifurcated plate which may be engaged with a groove 13 in the piston neck portion 9 so that the piston cannot be moved through the syringe barrel. A piston rod 14 is secured (e.g. by screw threads or inter-engaging rib and groove formations) to the piston neck portion and is used to close the bore in the piston. The syringe barrel may be of polyethylene with an integral (as shown) or attached nozzle 3 and the piston and piston rod may be of polypropylene. After removing the piston rod from the piston the syringe is filled with a medium through either the nozzle 3 or the bore 20, in the latter case the syringe being supported (Figure 3, not shown) over an filler nozzle (19) and an aperture in a table 18. The syringe may comprise two syringe barrels and pistons, similar to that described above, and coupled together.
