Abstract

1437595 Injection syringe SURVIVAL TECHNOLOGY INC 29 May 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 23742/74 Heading A5R A combination cartridge and cannula unit comprises a cylindrical cartridge body 30 having a rear open end and a necked portion 31 at the forward end nearest a cannula (87), a chamber for medicament 110 between a plunger 40 slidably carried in body 30 and a stopper 90 mounted in portion 31, a cap 70, fitting over a ring 96 and secured to a flange 34 of portion 31, said cap having a cylindrical sleeve extending forwardly and coaxial with the axis of body 30, a cylindrical needle support 100 extending from the rearward side of a cannula mounting member 83 and slidably fitting within sleeve 76, a needle 102 fixed to the rearward end of support 100 which support has an annular recess 106 engaging an annular head 78 on cap 70 to space the needle from the stopper, the cannula (87) having a hub (88) with an outer sleeve 85 of a cannula hub mounting portion and a cannula sheath 120 to maintain the sterility of the cannula. As shown in Fig. 1, the hub (88) has flat peripheral faces of a sleeve 84 inside sleeve 85. Plunger rod 50 is threaded into plunger 40 which has external annular projections engaging the bore of body 30. Plunger 40 is retained in body 30 by a member (130). Member 83 has flat peripheral faces for screwing the threads 85 of cannula assembly 80 into threads 25 of a barrel 20 and engaging flange 82 against the inside of the barrel. Retaining clip 60 fits over flange 22 to retain -body 30 in barrel 20. Pushing rod 50 causes the body 30 to move forward so that bead 78 engages a shoulder 108 on assembly 80 and the needle 102 pierces stopper 90. Sheath 120 is removed, the needle inserted in the patient, rod 50 pulled silghtly rearwardly to aspirate the unit and then pushed forward to inject the medicament 110.
