Abstract
1,197,828. Electrophotographic element. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 20 Sept., 1968 [27 Oct., 1967], No. 44812/68. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic element comprises a conductive support having thereon a layer comprising a dispersion of photoconductive material in a polymer prepared by solution polymerization from monomers comprising ethyl acrylate, hydroxyethyl methacrylate or hydroxypropyl methacrylate, styrene and optionally chlorostyrene. The monomers are employed in amounts 30-65 wt. per cent ethyl acrylate, 3-10 wt. per cent hydroxyethyl or hydroxypropyl methacrylate, 30-60 wt. per cent styrene and up to 10 wt. per cent chlorostyrene. The polymer preferably has an intrinsic viscosity of 0À2 to 0À5. The photoconductor may be ZnO, Se, CdS, Cd Te, S or anthracene whilst the support is preferably conductive paper. Various solvents and polymerization initiators are specified for the polymerization in solution. A small amount of methacrylic acid may be added to the polymeric binder.
