Abstract
1,197,410. Aliphatic titanates. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 22 Oct., 1968 [18 Nov., 1967], No. 50084/68. Heading C2C. A continuous process for producing aliphatic titanate esters comprises continuously mixing a titanium tetrahalide and an aliphatic alcohol, optionally in the presence of an inert diluent, dissipating the heat generated during mixing, passing the mixture through one or more reaction zones under anhydrous conditions at a temperature of not more than 220‹ C., into which zone(s) a nitrogen-containing base which forms a hydrohalide insoluble in the reaction mixture is introduced continuously or in stages in such a quantity that on completion of the reaction the mixture has a pH of about 8, and separating the resulting ester from the hydrohalide of the base and from the diluent if used. Suitable alcohols include straight- or branched chain primary and secondary alkanols with 2-9 carbons in the straight chain; suitable bases include gaseous or liquid NH 3 and pyridine; and suitable diluents include petroleum ether, cyclohexane and benzene.
