Organic isocyanates are produced in a continuous process by reacting the corresponding organic nitro-compounds with carbon monoxide at elevated temperature and in the presence of active catalysts by vaporizing the organic nitro-compounds, mixing the vapour with gaseous carbon monoxide, contacting the mixture with the catalysts and withdrawing the isocyanate-containing reaction products from the reaction zone.
