Abstract

1,195,702. Retractive switches. H. S. WOODHEAD. 12 Aug., 1968 [12 May, 1967], No. 22047/67. Heading H1N. An hermetically sealed push switch has a flexible metal cover a attached at the edges to a rigid metal base c which insulatingly supports a contact d engageable by the contact b provided or supported by the cover, distortion of the cover a under an externally applied force such as finger pressure causing the normally separated contacts b, d to close. The fixed contact d is mounted on a rod or tube e centrally disposed in a glass to metal seal g in the annular steel base c. The cover is of hard springy metal sheet and is shaped to produce a click ' action. The cover may be of phosphor bronze, with silver on the inside acting as the movable contact b. The switch has an external insulating coating of plastics material.
