Blocks; wooden bars.-Timber beams, bars, struts, ties, &c. are reinforced against bending and compressive strains by forming them in two or more longitudinally divided parts a, a', having preferably curved meeting surfaces, and which are arranged so that the grain of adjacent parts runs in opposite directions. Steel or other rods may be inserted in grooves b formed in the contacting faces of the parts a, a', and according to the Provisional Specification, these rods may be kept in tension by plates and nuts at each end of the beam.
