Abstract
1,195,076. Electrically conductive thermoplastics. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 18 Nov., 1968 [28 Nov., 1967], No. 54122/67. Heading C3P. Electrically conductive organic thermoplastics articles having a grained structure comprise a non-conducting thermoplastics material incorporating a minor proportion by weight of a different organic thermoplastics material containing at least 20 weight per cent of one or more conductive fillers, and may be prepared by melt shaping mixtures of granules of the materials under conditions which avoid substantial intermixing in the molten state. Specified polymers are polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene and polyvinyl chloride. Specified fillers are carbon blacks, graphite, iron, copper, tin, aluminium, germanium and doped silicon. In an example, articles are moulded from mixtures of granules of polypropylene and acetylene black filled polyethylene.
