Abstract

1,194,643. Making tubes. STICHTING WATERBOUWKUNDIG LABORATORIUM. 5 April, 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 16501/68. Addition to 1,143.924. Heading F2P. [Also in Division B2] An apparatus for making a hose by coating a knitted hose comprises a tray 14 for the coating liquid, the tray having an aperture in its base through which a tubular element 20 extends. The tubular element 20 over which the knitted hose is drawn comprises a body of revolution provided with a central bore the upper end of which extends above the tray 14. A tube 22 is mounted within the tubular element 20 to form an annular space in the central bore. The annular space communicates with an air supply, the air in the use of the apparatus passing into the upper end of the tube 22 and through the tube 22 thus keeping the coated tube above the tubular element inflated. A resilient ring 11 is provided in the central aperture of the tray to prevent leakage of coating liquid. In the construction shown the sealing of the resilient ring 11 is aided by providing a pressurized air chamber 9 below the tray. Air passes from the chamber 9 to the annular space through passages 23 in the tubular element. The tubular element may be supported either by rollers 28, one at each side of the tubular element (lefthand half of element in Figure) or by magnetic or electromagnetic means 30 (right-hand side). The knitted hose may be mounted on a pin 3 or the apparatus may be connected to a knitting machine. The apparatus is also provided with heaters and guide pulleys (Fig. 5, not shown).
