908,572. Indicating direction of fluid flow. ABBEY, A. (Automation Inc.). Sept. 29, 1960, No. 33518/60. Class 97 (2). An apparatus for sensing the direction of an airstream comprises a probe assembly 10 adapted to project laterally into the airstream and to be rotated about its projecting axis to angular positions indicative of airstream direction, means defining at least a pair of internal pneumatic conduits 14a, 14b extending along the length of a hollow member 13 symmetrical about said projecting axis, at least a pair of inlet ports 15a, 15b in the wall of the hollow member communicating respectively with the internal conduits 14a, 14b, a base portion 16 including a radially extending shoulder 16b exceeding the dimensions of the base of the hollow member to define a drip ring for water, means forming a plurality of drain apertures 18a, 18b, 18c, 18d communicating with the conduits 14a, 15b in the hollow member closely adjacent the shoulder 16b and ducts 19a, 19b to pass pneumatic signals. As shown in Fig. 3 the drip shoulder 16b is interrupted in the plane of a partition 14 by a barrier ridge 17 which butts tightly against the surface of the conical hollow part 13. The barrier 17 blocks the passage of moisture and thus breaks the surface tension in the adjacent drain apertures 18b, 18c to permit passage of water outwardly through the apertures. In a modification, shown in Fig. 4, the probe 20 is cylindrical and has an enlarged tubular portion 21.
