Abstract

764,561. Well apparatus. RICHARDSON, Inc., S. W. Feb. 9, 1955, No. 3862/55. Class 85. A special tubing section, or mandrel, for connection to well tubing of small diameter is adapted to accommodate a gas lift valve or the like having relatively large operating mechanism yet leaving a by-pass open ing as large as the internal diameter of the well tubing. The mandrel has a tubular body of circular cross-section which is offset axially relative to the axis 13 of the well tubing to whict it is to be connected. A tub( 14 of circular cross-section inclined downwards and outwards relative to the axis 13 is welded to the inside wall, furthest from the axis 13, of the mandrel and receives the cylindrical nose 15 of a lift valve 16 the upper part of which is received in a semicircular guide 22 and is held in position by latch means 25 engaging a latching lug 24. A port 19 in the nose 15 communicates with the extension of the mandrel through an annular recess 17 in the tube 14 and ports 18. The side of the tube 14 nearest the axis 13 is recessed as at 28, Fig. 6 so as to leave a by-pass opening as large as the internal bore 29 of the well tubing. For swabbing operations etc. the valve 16 may be removed by a wire line and replaced by a shorter dummy 30 (see Fig. 3, not shown).
