Abstract
119,389. Huntley, G., and Vivian, R. E. Feb. 18, 1918. Fluid-pressure-actuated load-handling machines. -Bales, barrels, cases, &c. are raised and lowered by a rope M fixed to the rim of a wheel L, on the axle of which is secured a pinion J engaged by a rack H which is connected by a cross-head D' to the piston-rod D of a double-acting hydraulic ram mounted on a wheeled base A. The admission of working fluid to the cylinder C through either of the pipes E, E' is controlled by a slide-valve N which works in a casing 0 provided with ports P, P' and is made with a passage N' communicating with the supply pipe R. The fluid discharged from the cylinder during the movement of the piston passes through that one of the pipes E, E<1> which is not in communication with the pipe R and the groove T in the valve N to the return pipe W.
