Abstract
1,193,633. Safety harness. NORRIS AUTO PRODUCTS Ltd. 3 July, 1967, No. 20770/66. Heading A3V. In a safety harness including a spring retraction reel (not shown) releasable means for maintaining a desired length of belt withdrawn from the reel includes relatively pivotable members 30, 31 with a restricted passage 35 between them and a spring slide 37 (omitted from Fig. 3). The member 30 is preferably fixedly mounted, on e.g. a door pillar or seat squab, and the member 31 is pivotable away from it against the action of springs 34 by means such as a cable (not shown). The slide 37 mounted on the portion. 41 of the belt 40 grips the belt in the normal full line position shown in Fig. 4b and is too large to pass through the passage 35. The portion 42 of the belt extends downwardly to the spring reel which exerts a pull on the belt in the direction F. To vary the length of belt withdrawn from the reel or to allow the belt to be fully retracted, the member 31 is pivoted away from the member 30, the slide 37 entering the passage 35 until it abuts a plane 43. The member 31 is then allowed to return and a plate 36 applies pressure in the direction of arrows E, Fig 4b, to flex the slide 37 to the broken line position shown in which it releases its grip on the belt.
