Abstract

1,192,732. Roller miils. ROSE, DOWNS & THOMPSON Ltd. 25 Aug., 1967 [31 Aug., 1966], No. 38873/66. Heading B2A. [Also in Division G3] The gap between a pair of flaking rolls 12, 12 is maintained constant by means of a hydraulic motor 26 which adjusts the spacing via screw 25 and wedges 23, 24 in response to variations in the 'back pressures of sensing nozzles 30 which adjust the motor control valve 27 by means of diaphragm 33. The nozzles are carried by a self-centring unit 31. A pump 21 supplies a fluid pressure bias to piston 18 connected to the chock 16 of the right hand roll. Both ends of the gap are controlled in like manner. In modifications, the gap is sensed by a capacitance transducer and is controlled by varying the pressure bias.
