Abstract

1,191,956. Sulphur-containing polybenzimidazoles. AKADEMIA NAUK SSSR, SIBIRSKOE OTDELENIE, BURYATSKY FILIAL. 5 Sept., 1968, No. 42299/68. Heading C3R. The invention comprises polybenzimidazoles with repeating units of formula and m is 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10. The polymers are obtained by reacting a tetramine of formula with a sulphur-containing dicarboxylic acid or ester of formula where X is -OH, -OCH 3 or -OC 6 H 5 . The reaction is carried in an inert gas stream at 200‹ to 280‹ C. In examples polymers are obtained by heating in nitrogen mixtures of 3,3<SP>1</SP>- diaminobenzidine with dithiovaleric dicarboxylic acid, thiodienanthic dicarboxylic acid, thiodipelargonic dicarboxylic acid and sulphodivaleric dicarboxylic acid; mixtures of tetramine diphenyl oxide with thiodivaleric dicarboxylic acid, dithiodienanthic dicarboxylic acid, disulphodivaleric dicarboxylic acid and disulphodienanthic dicarboxylic acid; mixtures of tetramine diphenylmethane with thiodivaleric dicarboxylic acid, dithiodipelargonic dicarboxylic acid and sulphodienanthic dicarboxylic acid; a mixture of 3,3<SP>1</SP>-diaminobenzidine, tetramine diphenylmethane, thiodivaleric acid, and thiodienanthic acid; a mixture of tetramine diphenyl oxide, tetramine diphenylmethane and dithiodivaleric dicarboxylic acid; a mixture of tetramine diphenyl oxide, dithiodivaleric and dithiodienanthic dicarboxylic acids; a mixture of tetramine diphenyl, dithiodivaleric and dithiodiundecanoic dicarboxylic acids; and a mixture of tetramine diphenyl oxide, tetramine diphenylmethane, sulphodivaleric and sulphodienanthic dicarboxylic acids.
