1481159 Preparation of 5-alkylpicolinic acids LONZA Ltd 10 June 1976 [19 June 1975] 24060/76 Heading C2C A process for the preparation of a 5-alkylpicolinic acid comprises reacting a 5-alkyl-2- methyl-pyridine with hydrogen peroxide, rearranging the resulting N-oxide by means of acetic anhydride to give a 5-alkyl-2-acetoxymethylpyridine as an intermediate, and reacting this intermediate with concentrated nitric acid under reflux.
