Abstract

1,191,349. Feeding sheets. DEAN RESEARCH CORP. 5 June, 1967 [6 July, 1966], No. 25787/67. Heading B8R. Batches of sheets 41, Fig. 12, are separated from a horizontal pile 30, Fig. 12, or a vertical pile, Fig. 3, by a head 1, Figs. 1, 3, 7, 10, 12, comprising two knives 12, one of which is inserted into the pile, e.g. between two batchdefining tabs, and the other of which is closed on to the piles. The head comprises a disc 13 carrying a short projecting tube 16 through which suction is applied to the head, and the knives in being moved together engage the tube and rotate the disc as necessary. The head can be pivoted horizontally, Fig. 1, to reverse the stack, and can be raised by cables 3, 4 and transported along a rail 6. The batch can be deposited in a swingable part 59 of a conveyer, or released on to a table 34, which is then lowered into alignment with a pusher which transfers it on to a surface 39 along or by which it is moved to a working position. The table 34 and surface 39 are provided with air jet openings 40 to support the batch on an air cushion. An elevator 33 is indexed to raise the pile to the height of the table 34.
