Abstract

1,190,243. Evaporators, vacuum pans. FLETCHER & STEWART Ltd. 22 April, 1968 [29 April, 1967], No. 19856/67. Heading B1B. An evaporator, suitable for the concentration of sugar syrup, is heated by steam supplied to hollow fins 14 spaced, in two horizontal rows 10, 12, transversely across the lower half of the evaporator, and is provided with rotatable stirrer blades 22 mounted on two horizontal shafts 16, 18 which are rotated in opposite directions, whereby the stirrer blades move through the spaces between the heating fins 14. The liquid to be evaporated is introduced into the lower part of the evaporator through tube 28 which has a series of outlet holes 30, and is surmounted by deflector plate 32. The evaporator has sight-glasses 42, and the interior is illuminated by lamps 43. The heating steam is supplied to fins 14 through manifolds 15 and inlets 14a; and the condensate is discharged through outlets 14b. Instead of being heated by steam, the fins may be heated electrically.
