Abstract

1,190,065. Rotary pressing filter. RIETZ MFG. CO. 21 Sept., 1967 [22 Sept., 1966], No. 43055/67. Heading B1D. In a continuous rotary pressing filter of the Selwig type (i.e. comprising a pair of filter screens 67 of frusto-conical shape mounted on wheels 57 disposed almost co-axially on two shafts 61, the shafts having their axes disposed at a mutual inclination and rotating in the same direction whereby the substance to be treated experiences maximum compression in a pinch zone Z), the wheels 57 are journalled to a pair of side structures 19 pivotable towards and away from each other, means 31 being provided to apply a yieldable force urging the structures 19 and hence the wheels 57 towards each other. As described, the urging means 31 is a hydraulic cylinder maintained at a substantially constant pressure by means of an accumulator (41), Fig. 6 (not shown), which also allows cylinder 31 to yield to reactive compression forces. The wheels 57 are chain-driven. Feed is introduced into the enclosed space between the screens 67 via a rotary conveyor (87), Fig. 5 (not shown). In the pinch zone Z liquid passes through the screens and is removed; the solid residue is removed by doctors (83a, 83b, 84) through an outlet (82).
