Abstract

1,189,604. Treating wood chips. MO OCH DOMSJO A.B. 8 April, 1968, No. 16811/68. Heading D1P. Wood chips are treated with an aqueous dispersion of a micro-organism capable of decomposing one or more resin constituents present in the wood and are thereafter stacked in a pile. Decomposition of the resin constituent(s) and prevention of decomposition of cellulose and hemi-cellulose is effected by employing (i) a micro-organism which generates a temperature of at least 50‹C, (ii) a micro-organism which has an antibiotic effect against cellulose- and hemicellulose-decomposing micro-organisms, or (iii) a microorganism together with nickel sulphate. A number of micro-organisms are specified. A nutrient mixture may also be added to the aqueous dispersion. As shown, chips from a hopper 3 are fed to a pneumatic conveyor 2 wherein they are sprayed with liquid from pipes 8 and 9 while being conveyed to a storage site.
