A method of uniformly redistributing a non- uniform negative charge on an insulative surface comprises contacting the surface with a material which causes the charge to redistribute in the areas contacted thereby. The material may be a conductive liquid with a high vapour pressure, for example ethanol, which readily evaporates from the surface, or an ungrounded conductive roller, or a volatile insulative liquid in which the surface of the insulator is slightly soluble.
