Turning.-A multiple tool for screw-cutting or other turning has the cutting-faces a<1> on a number of gapped disks a which come successively into operation on the work i, and preferably, as each tool reaches the end of its working traverse,_ it is rotated slightly on the supporting-spindle b so that the edge a<1> is moved clear of the work and of any projecting collar thereon, by a spring m acting on the arm c<1> of a washer c loose on the spindle b and having a lug c' engaging the gapped portion of the disk a. The disks a are returned to their working position by a pin n mounted on a loose collar p having a handle r working between adjustable stops s, t. The disks a may be held in their working positions by a stepped spring-pressed key f, the projecting stem f<1> of which abuts against an adjustable stop so that it slides relatively to the disks and releases them in turn. In a modification, the disks are held by a fixed abutment which engages the upper portion of the gap. Specification 14558/15 is referred to.
