Abstract
1,188,948. Hand digging implements. J. W. BOND. 20 Dec., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 58374/66. Heading A1B. A trenching tool has a blade 10 which is of U-shape in cross-section, the width of the U being less than the depth of the U and the length of the blade being greater than its width. The tool is provided with a manually operable pusher 14 which is slidably mounted in a guide 16 on the handle 12 of the tool. Movement of the pusher may be limited by protuberances 22 on the pusher which cooperate with guide 16. Alternatively, Fig. 5 (not shown) the stem of the pusher has a part of its length canted at 28 relative to handle 12 so that when it is raised relative to handle 12 an increasingly stronger reaction takes place between a retaining sleeve 30 on the handle, and the stem of the pusher to hold the stem by friction. The depth of penetration of the tool is limited by a cross-bar 24 the position of which can be adjusted along the handle 12.
