Abstract

1,188,883. Automatic circuit breakers; gasblast switches. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 23 May, 1968 [23 June, 1967], No. 24633/68. Heading H1N. A moulded case circuit breaker has a set of magnetic arc splitter plates 31 extending into a recess 180 formed by a protuberance 175 on the rear wall of the moulded case. Two venting passages 107, 109 are provided for the arc products. The U-shaped magnetic plates 31 are held in an insulating wrapper 133 (Figs. 6-8, not shown). The insulating casing parts 7 are moulded from an organic resin filled with a substantial proportion of aluminium oxide or hydrate with some glass fibre or asbestos; the material generates gas under the action of the arc to assist in the extinction thereof. The resin may be a polyester, phenolic, urea, melamine or silicone resin.
