Abstract

1,187,852. Thermal switches. RANCO CONTROLS Ltd. 21 May, 1968 [23 May, 1967], No. 24018/67. Heading H1N. In a temperature responsive switch the thermal element 1, Fig. 1, has a yielding connection to permit overtravel and moves a rocking lever 6 supported at two pivot points 61, 62 and engageable at a third point with an actuator 41 of the switch. The pivot point 62 is arranged on a temperature adjustment edge cam 8 which moves the lever 6 about its fixed pivot 61 and has a notch 81 to engage a detent rib 63 at an " off " position of the cam 8. The thermal element bellows 1 moves the plate 6 through a bush 56 and spring 55 attached by a calibration screw 58 to the centre of the bush 56. The ends of the spring 55 engage slots 66 in flanges 65 of the lever 6 whereby overtravel of the bellows is taken up by the spring 55. The thermal switch may be arranged in an assembly with a separate double-pole on-off switch 3, Fig. 4 (not shown) operable by a pin (82) on the temperature adjusting cam 8 which engages a moulded cam follower block carried by spring blade contacts.
