Abstract

1,187,271. Screening apparatus. ORVILLE SIMPSON CO. 23 March, 1967 [25 March, 1966], No. 13857/67. Heading B2H. [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] In an arrangement wherein a screen 15 is held in a frame 10 and tensioned by a plurality of S-shaped spring tensioners 17, formed e.g. of strip spring material and used e.g. for releasably mounting the screen in a power driven sifting and screening machine, each spring tensioner comprises a mounting portion 39 of approximate 'C' shape which is adapted to be received and retained within the correspondingly shaped frame channel 18, 22, and a screen tensioning portion 70 which is of general 'U' shape, the mounting portion 39 comprising upper and lower lobes 44, 45 which are joined, at one side only, by a flexible, preferably inwardly bent, section 46 which allows the lobes to be displaced towards each other, and the tensioning portion 40 consisting of a lower bend 48 one leg 47 of which has an outwardly inclined tab 41 for engaging in a corresponding screen opening 53. The frame, which may be of curved or polygonal shape, and which is made e.g. of stainless steel or aluminium, has a lower shoulder 23 and flange 24 which facilitates introduction of the spring tensioners into the channel 18- 22, the spring tensioners being slidable longitudinally of the channel to position them for engagement with a corresponding opening 53 after which, tensioning of the U-shaped legs 47-49, causes the mounting portion to be constrained within the channel. A removable sealing and cushioning strip 35 has an internal cavity 60 for releasably engaging studs. 26 on the lower face of the frame 10.
