Abstract

118,694. Jeffcott, H. H. Sept. 19, 1917. Motor regulated for constant speed by tuning- fork or the like.-A machine 12, Fig. 1, is driven at a substantially constant speed by a motor 1 which has its stator windings connected to a commutator 3; brushes 5 are rotated around the commutator by means of an auxiliary synchronous motor 8, the stator of which is supplied with an intermittent continuous current through a vibrating contact-maker 9, such as a tuning fork, vibrating bar, or spring, causing part of the circuit 10 to dip into and out of a cup 11 of mercury. The rotor of the machine 8 and the brushes 5 are supplied with continuous current. The speed of the motor 1 will correspond to that of the brushes 5 around the commutator 3. Different speeds may be obtained by varying the period of the tuning fork &c.
