Abstract

A photographic material comprises either a dimensionally stable polyester support containing a white pigment so that it is a diffuse reflector or a support coated with a water-impermeable layer containing the white pigment to render it dimensionally stable and a diffuse reflector and then coating directly on to the reflective layer at least two different silver halide emulsions in one or two layers; one emulsion containing a dye which absorbs light in the sensitivity range of the emulsion and this emulsion having a higher sensitivity but a lower gamma than the other emulsion. In the examples, either a bi-axially oriented polyester support containing titanium dioxide or a paper support coated on both sides with polyolefin layers one layer containing titanium or coated on one side with a polyolefin layer containing TiO 2 and on the other side wide with dioxide, a metal foil is coated in one or two layers with a silver chlorobromide emulsion with a gamma of 1 and a yellow masking dye and with a silver chlorobromide emulsion with a gamma of 4 and a speed one twentieth of the first emulsion and optionally the emulsions being optically sensitized to different regions. The material is used for exposure to originals containing continuous tone and half tone to produce a reflection copy which is used in photo-mechanical printing.
