Abstract

1,186,081. Calendar timepieces. BULOVA WATCH CO. Inc. March 22, 1967 (March 30, 1966; Oct.5, 1966; Jan.10, 1967], No.13566/67. Heading G3T. A calendar timepiece has hour and minute hands which may be set manually by a rotatable stem assembly adapted in an "out" position to engage a setting mechanism, and which are disengaged from the setting mechanism in an "in" position of the stem assembly, means inter-coupling a finger and the stem assembly only at the "in" position thereof whereby rotation of the stem assembly causes the finger to turn a date ring, and an automatic trigger mechanism to advance the date ring once per day. When the stem 11 is withdrawn to its "out" position a clutch wheel 13 thereon is engaged with a setting wheel (not shown) inter-meshing with the minute wheel to permit setting of the hands by rotation of the stem 11. In the "in" position of the stem 11 teeth 18b on the clutch wheel 13 engage ratchet teeth 18a on a collar 18 on the stem 11. Rotation of the stem 11 then advances a date ring 16 by the engagement of a tooth 19 on the collar 18 with teeth 17 on the date ring 16. The trigger mechanism for the daily advance of the date ring 16 comprises a finger 24 rotated by the hour wheel 15 continuously at one rotation per day within an opening 25 in a trip arm 26. An end 31 of the latter is slidable in a slot 27 in a pillar plate PP to permit the arm 26 to move against the action of a spring 30 when the finger 24 engages a notch (not shown) in the edge of the opening 25. At midnight the finger 24 disengages from the notch and the spring 30 impels the trip arm 26 against a bumper 29, a nose 28 on the moving trip arm 26 then engaging a tooth 17 to advance the date ring 16. Simultaneously with the advance of the date ring 16 a day ring 41 is advanced by the engagement between teeth 42 thereof of a pin 43 projecting from the trip arm 26. In two alternative embodiments the end of the trip arm 26 is not slidable in a slot in the pillar plate, but in one construction is provided with a slot within which is received a guide pin secured to the pillar plate, and in the other is formed as a tongue slidable between two cam members secured to the pillar plate.
